Ik ben opgegroeid met de sterkste vrouw die ik ooit heb gekend: mijn moeder.<\/p>\n\n

Als kind begreep ik niet volledig hoe zwaar zij het had. Ik zag alleen dat ze constant in beweging was: opstaan voor de zon opkwam, onvermoeibaar werken, en bij thuiskomst nog steeds de kracht vinden om te koken, schoon te maken, te helpen met huiswerk en mij te troosten wanneer ik haar nodig had. Ze klaagde nooit. Ze gaf nooit op; ze ging simpelweg altijd door.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

Maar naarmate ik ouder werd, begon ik het te begrijpen. Ik zag de uitputting in haar ogen die ze probeerde te verbergen. Ik zag de stille strijd die ze alleen leverde; de financi\u00eble stress, de emotionele druk, de verantwoordelijkheid om zowel moeder als vader te zijn. Ze had geen partner om op te leunen. Niemand om de last mee te delen. Alles hing van haar af. Haar zien worstelen gaf me geen machteloos gevoel. Het plantte iets krachtigs in mij<\/p>\n\n

Ik besefte dat ik niet alleen was; er zijn wereldwijd miljoenen alleenstaande moeders die hetzelfde gewicht met zich meedragen. Vrouwen die steun, respect en kansen verdienen.<\/p>\n\n

Dat is het moment waarop de visie voor de Single Mother Foundation werd geboren. Ik beloofde mezelf dat ik op een dag iets zou opbouwen dat vrouwen zoals mijn moeder ondersteunt. Een stichting die middelen, financi\u00eble steun, mentorschap, educatie en emotionele ondersteuning biedt. Een plek waar alleenstaande moeders zich niet alleen voelen. Een plek die hen eraan herinnert dat hun kracht wordt gezien, gewaardeerd en ge\u00eberd.<\/p>\n\n

Single Mother Foundation is niet zomaar een idee voor een organisatie; het is een eerbetoon aan de veerkracht van mijn moeder. Het is een antwoord op haar offers. Het is mijn manier om haar pijn om te zetten in een doel, want ik heb een vrouw zien worstelen, ik heb haar zien overleven en ik heb haar zien winnen, zelfs toen er niemand keek.<\/p>\n\n

En nu wil ik ervoor zorgen dat alleenstaande moeders overal weten: Ze hoeven er niet alleen voor te staan.


Lamin Barrow is de algemeen directeur van een goed doel. Hij geeft leiding aan de organisatie, ziet erop toe dat de doelstellingen worden behaald en ontwikkelt plannen voor de toekomst. Hij stuurt het personeel aan, beheert de programma's en werkt samen met het bestuur om het succes van de stichting te waarborgen<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

I grew up watching the strongest woman I have known, my mother. As a child, I did not fully understand the weight she carried. I only saw her moving constantly, waking up before sun working tirelessly, and coming home still finding the strength to cook, clean, help with homework and comfort me when I needed her. She never complained. She never gave up; she simply kept going.  But as I grew older, I began to understand. I saw the exhaustion in her eyes that she tried to hide. I saw the silent battles she fought alone; the financial stress, the emotional pressure, the responsibility of being both: mother and father. She had no partner to lean on. No one to share the burden. Everything depended on her. Watching her struggle  did not make me feel helpless. It planted something powerful inside me. I realized that I was not alone; there are millions of single mothers around the world carrying the same weight. Women who deserve support, respect and opportunity. That is when the vision for the Single Mother Foundation was born. I promised myself that one day I would build something that supports women like my mother. A foundation that provides resources, financial  assistance, mentorship, education and emotional support. A place where single mothers do not feel alone. A place that reminds them that their strength is seen is valued and honoured. Single Mother Foundation is not just an organisation idea, it is a tribute to my mothers resilience. It is a response to her sacrifices. It is my way of turning her pain into purpose, because I watched a woman struggle, I watched her survive and I watched her win, even when no one was watching. And now I want to make sure that Single Mothers everywhere know: They do not have to do it alone. Lamin Barrow is the CEO of a charity. He leads the organization, makes sure it achieves its goals, and creates plans for the future.
